As Corriemoillie Lodge is so perfectly located, the places to visit, stunning scenic drives and lovely walks are endless !

Here is just a taste of what’s on offer in the Highlands:

Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands is just a ½ hour drive south. This bustling city offers a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants, theatre, museums, art galleries etc. and the prominent sandstone castle dating back to the 1830’s overlooks the river Ness. You can even take a boat trip on the Moray Firth and enjoy some dolphin spotting.

Just a short drive from Inverness is the Culloden battlefield with it’s National Trust visitors centre. Here, in 1746, the last land battle in Britain took place where the Jacobites, led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, were famously defeated. Cawdor Castle and gardens is also within a short drive to the east of the city.

For those visiting in winter, the famous ski resort of Aviemore in the Cairngorms is just 30 miles south of Inverness.

Loch Ness, Scotland’s largest loch, is also just a few miles south of Inverness. There are plenty of attractions on both sides of the loch including Urquhart Castle, the Caladonian Canal lochs, the Rare Breeds Centre as well as boat cruises and Nessy spotting !

Also to the south lies the Victorian Spa town of Strathpeffer with its pump room, Highland Museum of Childhood and Castle Leod. For those wanting to sample a local dram there’s The Glen Ord Distillery at Muir of Ord or try some organic beer at the Black Isle Brewery, both within easy reach.

Also on the Black Isle there’s the Cromarty Court House Museum and the Black Isle Wildlife and Country Park which makes a great family day out.

To the west of Corriemoillie lies the breathtaking scenery of Glen Torridon, Beinn Eighe, Loch Maree, the picturesque coastal village of Plockton, the Applecross penisula and the famous Eilean Donan Castle. Also on the west coast there’s the chance to relax on the unspoilt beaches of Gairloch or wander around the famous National Trust gardens of Inverewe.

For those wishing to visit the Islands, the Skye bridge is just 50 miles west of Corriemoillie. The pretty fishing village of Ullapool, 30 miles North, also offers a ferry service to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides, or pleasure cruises to the Summer Isles.

To the north there is the little town of Dornoch with it’s 13th century cathedral and pretty stone cottages, the National Nature Reserve at Loch Fleet, Dunrobin Castle and gardens and the Falls of Shin where salmon can be seen leaping at certain times of the year.

Of course Scotland is the home of golf and the Highlands is no exception with plenty to choose from, including Royal Dornoch (ranked 15th in the world), Nairn, Tain, Gairloch and Strathpeffer, all within easy reach. There is even a unique natural forest play park near by, a place for the kids to combine fun and physical activity whilst enjoying the amazing surroundings.
